Proclaim: Meet the VFC Interns

Why did you decide to do the internship?

Nathan Simmons - I came to UT in the Fall of 2005 proclaiming to be a Christian but enslaved to legalism and condemnation. Volunteers for Christ helped me for the first time to understand GRACE. I wanted to be an intern to help others to understand the gospel of the grace of God found in Jesus Christ.

Garrett Crawford - I want other college students to see what God showed me emphatically during my five years of being involved with VFC and CCK - that there is an unsurpassable, eternal value in investing your life in a Gospel-driven local church.

Melanie Peggs - It was my freshman year of college that I heard the gospel and was saved, and God has put the desire in my heart to serve as an intern and share the gospel with girls (students at UT) who are just like me- in need of a Savior!  To do the internship is such a gift, and the sweetest joy in it is seeing college students treasure Christ!!

Suzanne Holbrook - I grow in my love for Jesus and others as I get to share the gospel full-time with girls who don't know Him, and nothing compares with the joy of seeing God save students and draw them into a relationship with Himself!

Lisa Clow - I was reading my bible in the library of UTK (taking a break from studying) and I read Matthew 9:37 & 38. "Then he (Jesus) said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.' " I thought to myself,  "I could be that answered prayer, I could be that laborer here on this campus." And so, from then on I prayed that God would allow me to be an intern for VFC and He did! In this breath of a life I couldn't think of a better way to spend these 3 years than to labor over His harvest to build His Kingdom.

Maria Rosales - I heard the gospel and got saved through Volunteers for Christ, so I want to be an intern to tell girls what God has done for me and how they can be transformed the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Brad Owens - So that I would more effectively glorify God by placing myself where I will grow in no longer living for myself but for Him who for my sake died and was raised.

John Kinslow-Cruz - Before I became a Christian my senior year of high school I was into the party scene and used a lot of drugs, a similar experience to many students, therefore I want to show students that there is more to live for than this world; also being in VFC for four year has drastically strengthened my relationship with God and it's such a joy to be a part of His work in the lives of others.

Becca Tinker - I wanted to be an intern because God used VFC (and it's interns) as a way to engage my heart, give me new zeal for His Kingdom, and show me what it looks like to faithfully pursue the LORD through the college years.

Austin Clow - I wanted to share the gospel with the students at the University of Tennessee.

Hal Hill - I wanted to be an intern because I wanted to grow in counting others more significant than myself, and to grow my love for the gospel through relational and initiative evangelism.

Kalista Mead – UT campus has people from all over the country/ world, and we have complete freedom to share the gospel and open up our lives to them, whereas this might not be the case in other places.
