Relay//: Be Still...

With syllabi, paper due dates, and exams on the horizon, a new school year can be fast and furious in its demands. And fittingly, as I was reading in my devotional time a few mornings ago, I came across a verse that the Lord has used to comfort, and correct, my soul.

Psalm 94:19

"When the cares of my heart are many,
 your consolations cheer my soul."

Or, another version puts it this way...

"In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul."

This verse was so helpful in this season of transition from summer to school year, as responsibilities multiply and the ever-growing to-do list can seem overwhelming.

So the question I would ask of you,and myself, is...am I resting in the Lord? Am I quieting my heart and my thoughts before Him, recognizing His sovereignty over every one of my responsibilities? Am I remembering that He has promised to be faithful, to never let me be tempted beyond what I can bear?

So, the next time you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed by your task-list, or the cares of your heart, whether academic or spiritual in nature begin to drown out your prayers, recall this verse. David had trouble here too...you're not alone in this fight.

Soul, remember the faithfulness of God, His promises and character! Remember that He has promised to conform all things to His will, for the good of His people, (including you if you are in Christ through faith) and ultimately, He will be glorified as we trust and look to Him.
