How much is it worth to you... Everything has a price...Not for all the money in the world...

These are all famous quotes concerning money and the cost of things, and I thought of many similar phrases this week after reading Psalm 49.This Psalm is full of wisdom concerning the purpose and use of monetary possessions. While there are a plethora of topics that we could cover, the main one is found in verses 7-9 as follows:

7 Truly no man can ransom another,
or give to God the price of his life,
8 for the ransom of their life is costly
and can never suffice,
9 that he should live on forever
and never see the pit.

So..what do you think your life is worth? Verse 7 reveals that there is no price that we can pay God to ransom either ourselves, or others. This includes good works. No amount of effort, work, or sincerity will pay for your, or my, sins. Punishment must be meted out for God to remain just. Wrath can't be shoved under the rug or simply dismissed. God cannot be bribed or persuaded otherwise. The price must be paid.

THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM!!!

Christian, consider Christ and what He has done in a fresh way again as you read this. Jesus took all of God's righteous anger towards Your sin onto himself at Calvary. He hung, enduring all of the punishment in a few hours that would have taken us an eternity to experience. And now, it's gone! Never will God hold the Christian's feet to the fire, or demand payment for sin. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe!

And now, in light of the mercies of God as evidenced in the cross, we are to live out our faith as living sacrifices, for the renown of the One who bought us with His life-blood. (Romans 12:1)

See David's faith as expressed in this verse, and apply it to yourself in the (present tense) if you trust in Christ alone:

15 But God will(has) ransom(ed) my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me. Selah

Thank you, Jesus!
