A Prayer for the New Year
This was our pastoral prayer from Sunday morning:
Father, All glory be to you! Thank you for making us your people through the work of Jesus Christ! You have fulfilled the promises of your word through Him. As we look forward to that day when we will see you face to face, we pray that we would experience you in fresh and new ways this year.
We ask you to increase our hunger and thirst for your Word. Remind us daily that we do not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from you. Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love and let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly.
Help us to seek your word for wisdom and understanding like silver or hidden treasure. May we receive your words and treasure your commandments. Make our ears attentive to your wisdom and incline our hearts to you as we call out for insight.
Father, your word is perfect and your testimony is sure. Use it in this church to revive our souls, make us wise and cause our hearts to rejoice. Your commandments are pure, enlightening the eyes; they are true and righteous altogether. May we desire your word more than gold and taste the sweetness of your word day after day.
Use your word to warn us and protect us from evil. Remind us there is great reward in keeping your word. May we be careful to obey your words and may it may go well with us and our families forever. Use your word to help us do what is good and right in your sight.
Help us to delight in your law and meditate on it day and night. Make us like trees planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season, and whose leaves do not wither. In all that we do, may we prosper according to your will. Father your word has authority. Help us to believe and obey it. Use your Word in us for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that we can be competent and equipped for every good work.
We know your word is without error because you never lie. Your word is truth. It is always pure and we can trust it to be true no matter what we face in life.
Your word gives us clarity. It is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit and discerning the thoughts and intentions of our hearts; may it be a light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet.
We know that your word will not return to you empty, it will accomplish that which you purpose, and will succeed in the thing for which you sent it. Plant your word deep in our hearts and minds and use it to guide us and help us to guide our children. We need your word to strengthen our grasp of the gospel, to maintain our spiritual lives, and to know your will. Please continue to reveal your kingdom to us and nourish us through your word.
Father your word is sufficient. Thank you revealing all of the words we need for salvation, for trusting you perfectly, and for obeying you through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.
In accordance with your word and through the power of your Spirit, we ask you to stir up our prayer lives and help us to be a people of prayer. Be faithful to answer our prayers us as we call out to you for help in the days and weeks ahead. Fan our spiritual gifts into flame through the power of the Spirit and equip us for ministry. Use your word to encourage our church prophetically and remind us of your deep love for us.
As we look forward to this year, may you accomplish many wonders in our midst. May we live with glad and generous hearts praising you and having favor with people. Let your work be shown to your people and your glorious power to our children. Establish the work of our hands for your great glory! In the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen!
