One2One Discipling Ministry

Cornerstone Church of Knoxville

“Older women...are to teach what is good, and so train the young women.” Titus 2:3-4

The purpose of One2One is to provide a structure that enables a younger woman to benefit from a more formal one-on-one discipling or mentoring relationship from an older woman on matters related to godly character and biblical womanhood for a specific period of time.

We all can and should be being discipled and discipling others and we don’t need a formal ministry to do this. Ministry can happen through reading books, listening to sermons, fellowship at community group, friendships, mothers training daughters, encouragement, and example, hanging out at someone’s home or having them over for dinner and learning from their life and example. While this is already an evidence of grace in our church--and we want to thank God for that--the pastors want to encourage it even more, thus the heart and purpose behind the One2One Ministry.

OVERVIEW:

-Nine months of one-on-one discipleship with a minimum of one face-to-face meeting and one other contact (via text, email, note, at church, etc.) per month.

-Pilot course to run from February 2019-August 2019. New course to begin in September 2019 and run for nine months.

OBJECTIVES:

1.Prayer

“[P]ray for one another...The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” James 5:16

“No man can do me a truer kindness in this world than to pray for me.” ~Charles Spurgeon

We encourage you to pray with and for the woman you are discipling.

  1. Encouragement

“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24

Make it a goal to consistently encourage her and help her to see where God’s grace is at work in her life.

  1. Training

“Older women...are to teach what is good, and so train the young women.” Titus 2:3-4

Train = “sophronizo” in Greek. Means “to school, to recall a person to his senses, to admonish (warn), to exhort, to spur on.”

Elisabeth Elliot said of Amy Carmichael that “she showed me the shape of godliness.”

Think of this as a “how to” relationship--showing her the shape of godliness in everyday life.

Personal intercessor, personal encourager, and personal trainer.

Parameters

-Not to replace other relationships in community group or church.

-Not for sharing sins of others.

-Not biblical counseling. If significant need or sin or trial comes to light, the best way you can serve her is by encouraging her to get in touch with a pastor. Please let us know if you need counsel for any unexpected situation.
